I used to be in awe of Beverly Johnson‘s magazine covers. As a young girl who did not have much contact with African Americans her image was really stunning and memorable to me. She was a pioneer of that time with over 500 magazine covers and the first African American on the cover of American Vogue in 1974. It’s rather sad, but the youth of today will probably not even recognize her or her accomplishments. Here she is attending events during the Mercedes Benz fashion week in NYC.
